HORROR HIGH: IN THEIR WORDS
“I’m a very hands-on person, so the making stuff and seeing how things are made… costumes and makeup and sets and props… all that stuff was right up my alley.”
“Something I've learned that I didn't expect was how much teamwork happens. It's kind of like a football team. Everyone has their very specific spot that they need to do and they need to do it well or else the whole team will all come crumbling down.”
“I got to meet a ton of great people. I got to learn what happens behind the scenes - and how long it takes to actually make good movies. It makes me have a new kind of respect for them I guess. It's just really fascinating to me to see how everybody works together as one big machine.”

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Horror High Film Camp is funded through grants, sponsorships, donations, and camp tuition. These funds cover production and liability insurance, as well as a one-time stipend to support crew members, equipment rentals, studio & location fees, catering & craft services, talent, set construction, and all stages of film production from pre- to post-production. We aim to offer a professional experience that equips young participants with the skills needed for paid positions in the film industry. Achieving this requires a substantial budget.
We need your support to continue providing these invaluable opportunities for aspiring filmmakers. Your donation can make a significant impact. Whether through a financial contribution, equipment donation, or volunteering your time, every bit helps. Join us in fostering the next generation of film industry professionals. Donate today and be a part of something extraordinary.
WHO AM I HELPING?
High school students with a passion for filmmaking will embark on an experience that will shape their futures
The 2024 Minneapolis production of Horror High Film Camp will feature Director Johnny Griese and Educational Producer Lily Rains. Johnny has spent the last fifteen years working in film and television. He has worked on shows for networks ABC, History, Travel, and Food Network, and has been a part of multiple feature films, including Dear White People and A Christmas Break-in. Lily is a Swiss Army knife of storytelling, seamlessly navigating TV/film, theatre, and education spaces. Prioritizing community-building, artist advocacy, and mentorship, she fosters brave and inclusive spaces in all her roles – whether as a teaching artist, intimacy professional, script doctor, or filmmaker. Her long list of film and television credits include Animal Kingdom, Bosch, and Super Pumped.
Together with a crew of professional filmmakers and mentors, and a youth crew of up-and-coming filmmakers, they will produce the short film Mama’s Boy, a comic-horror short about the lengths a mother will go to to keep her son close.
